Nick

I needed an Acheron fix, so… I decided to read the Chronicles of Nick (CON). Many of the Dark Hunters appear in Nick’s story and… I’m curious how Nick met Acheron and Kyrian. I first met Nick, the college student, in Night Pleasures as Kyrian’s  snide, sarcastic squire, and Acheron’s best friend...

OMG! Nick is so much fun! I thoroughly enjoyed seeing this side of him; snarky, sarcastic, and funny! When Nick begins a sentence with, “Is it just me or…," get ready to lol. It is great to see Nick, as a teenager, when he enters this wicked crazy world of the Dark Hunters, Weres, demons and zombies, and tries to make sense of everything. Some things are so ridiculous, they’re hilarious!

“…Is he going to have dynamite there again? (Cherise)
I doubt it. The ATF was pretty strict after the last incident…(Nick)”

And…the sarcastic banter between Acheron and Nick is just epic! This confirms for me, for the umpteenth time, just why I just love Acheron.

“How can this be your car? (Nick)
…Well, I wrote a really big check that didn’t bounce to the dealer and then the most amazing thing happened…the salesman gave me the keys and let me take it home. It was like magic (Acheron)”

Infinity, the first book of the Chronicles of Nick series introduces Nick Gautier, a streetwise Cajun typical teenager with typical issues: peer pressure, impressing girls, being accepted, and his fashion sense…well, he definitely will not fit in with “the cool kids”. Nick lives in New Orleans with his single mother, Cherise, an exotic dancer whose entire focus is to expose Nick to the best, provide him with a supportive network and most importantly, keep him out of trouble. Cherise is determined to make sure that Nick will not follow in his father’s footsteps to become a murderous sociopath felon.

Despite his mother’s best laid plans…trouble finds Nick as he unwittingly takes part in a mugging, but has a change of heart and saves the victims. However, his partners in crime are not so forgiving. They attempt to kill Nick, first with a severe beating, then by shooting him. Kyrian, a Dark Hunter, intervenes; attacks the thugs and saves Nick’s life. This is the beginning of a great friendship!  Kyrian becomes Nick’s mentor, helps Nick financially with the hospital bill as well as offers Nick employment. Why? Kyrian sees his younger self in Nick; an arrogant, stubborn, angst-driven youngster who just needs guidance.

“You remind me of a kid I knew once. Hard-headed to the point no one could stand him. He wouldn’t listen and had a massive chip on his shoulder…his commanding officer saw potential in him. He changed the kid’s life… (Kyrian)” .

But Wait… the insanity begins when the football players at his high school try to eat each other.
“Hey Ms. P, Tad called, What’s going on?
She let out a slow breath before she answered. You won’t believe this…Brian Murrey tried to eat Scott Murray’.
Nick’s eyes widened at the unexpected explanation. Had he heard that right?”

(Yes, Nick, “there be zombies here!”)

Nick travels to Kyrian’s home, meets Maria, Kyrian’s cook and…battles more zombies. (BTW, Maria is very skilled with…knives.) And…

Enter Acheron…

Nick meets Acheron; the infamous, enigmatic leader of the Dark Hunters. Our curious, street-savvy Nick astutely probes…glimpses partly…into the mystique that surrounds Acheron… and becomes privy to a few of Acheron’s secrets. Okaaaay! More weirdness!  Nick has entered the “twilight zone," in New Orleans with gods, zombies, demons,  and… who knows what else! Nick is determined to understand this new paradigm, these mysteries that many regard as normal. Ancient gods. Demons. Zombies. Really? And who is this Ambrose fellow?

In addition, Nick meets Kyl Poitiers, Alex Peltier, Eric, and Tabitha; just a few of the recurring characters from the Dark Hunter series.

Overall, Infinity is a hilarious, entertaining, action-packed, and zany read!
