Lachlain...an obsessive lykae

A Hunger Like No Other

by Kresley Cole

I finished the BDB series, 12 books, and I thought, well, Immortals After Dark will be another paranormal vampire series. I wasn’t sure what to expect. I mistakenly thought the IAD was strictly a vampire series, as the BDB, and then I remembered the title, immortals, as in werewolves, witches, demons, vampires, etc.  I’m used to an urban setting, with more interaction with humans; an “urban paranormal romance”.

A Hunger Like No Other tells the story of Lachlain, the king of the Lykae, werewolves. Captured and tortured for centuries by the deranged king of the Vampires, Demestriu, Lachlain escapes after suffering a blood lust, an insufferable craving for his mate. He senses her, crazed by her scent, so much so, that he amputates his leg to escape his prison. We follow Lachlain’s journey as he tracks, finds, and captures Emmaline. She is not what he expects! She’s his hated enemy, part of another species, a half-blood, a Valkyrie and vampire.

We experience Lachlain’s intensity, his obsessive need to possess and to claim Emmaline. She will be his mate, queen of the Lykae clan.Of course, she thinks he’s crazy! WTH! Frightening!  The delicate, shy, and timid Emmaline finds herself in a surreal situation, kidnapped by a ferocious enemy.  Raised by Valkyrie, the elfin, fae-like species possessing supernatural powers; the deadly, dangerous, formidable Emmaline uses her training and innate talents to befriend Lachlain, and  perhaps she can persuade him to release her, return her to her family.

Consequently, Lachlain and Emmaline learn more about each other; they gradually trust and rely on each other to survive dangerous challenges, enemies, and treacherous situations. They evolve, grow, transform; each faces their weaknesses, insecurities, and self-doubt. Most importantly, Lachlain and Emma support and encourage each other. They help one another find the courage each needs to confront their fears and to make difficult, yet appropriate decisions.

Similar to the DH and BDB series, each book of this series is part of a larger story arc; narrates a tale about an alpha male and his quest to claim his mate. In addition, there’s an ominous threat of a war, the Accession, that occurs every 500 years among the various facets of the Lore; consequently, we will witness the forming of alliances in preparation for this infamous battle.

The IAD  comes highly recommended, being very similar to the brother warriors; and thus, I should enjoy these alpha males as well.

However… I still miss Acheron!
