"Mad" Rogan...magnificent

Burn for Me
(Hidden Legacy #1)

by Ilona Andrews

Connor “Mad” Rogan! Yep, another arrogant, seductive, complex, powerful, intelligent alpha; and let’s not forget the FU attitude. An enigmatic alpha who chuckles, quietly laughs when amused by a private observation *sigh*  Love.This. Mad Rogan blends famously with my all time favs: Vishous, Acheron, Jason, Vasic, Caleb, Lucas, Sloane...

Burn for Me opens with Adam Pierce, a Prime pyrokinetic who wields murder and mayhem throughout downtown Houston. His latest stint results in the death of a bank security guard as well as robbing several banks.  “Adam takes what he wants, and if you tell him no, he will hurt you.” The infamous Adam visualizes himself  a social rebel, his goal to shatter societal institutions to the chagrin of his prestigious family, House Pierce. The charismatic, wealthy playboy fawned over by groupies is a media sensation, frequently in the public’s eye is a nightmare to law enforcement; but this time, he’s gone too far to be ignored.

Adam’s mother desperately wants her favored son returned to the family fold, alive and unharmed. Thus, she contacts MII, hoping that Montgomery will save her son before he’s apprehended by the police, and everything goes sideways.

Augustine Montgomery knows the task is pointless; however to cover his bases, deflect any responsibility for the op failure, he contacts Nevada Baylor, head of Baylor Investigations. But how can he persuade Nevada to accept the assignment? Oh Wait! Threats! MII holds the mortgage to Baylor Investigations as well as Nevada’s home, therefore, if she refuses she’ll face bankruptcy and foreclosure. Augustine dangles this carrot. Nevada has no choice and complies. A futile exercise as she has neither the resources nor the power to apprehend Adam.

BTW,  Nevada discovers that Mad Rogan is part of the mix! His promise to a distant cousin to find her son, Gavin Waller places Rogan in the midst of the hunt for Pierce. Adam and Gavin partnered in the latest mayhem spree, Adam, a Prime pyrokinetic, and Gavin, a partners. Rogan’s involvement is  definitely a game changer. Bad enough Nevada’s been threatened, coerced into this suicide mission, but now… she has to contend with another psychopath? Nevada soon learns that her rare talent, Truthseeking proves invaluable. "I want to know everything you have on Adam Pierce. His location, his plans, his family’s plans for him. Everything.” Mad Rogan growled like an animal.

“Rogan was a man, calculating, powerful, and stubborn."  An uber Prime telekinetic, Rogan wields immense magic with “calm precision.” A powerful Mage and strong opponent to other Primes, his reputation precedes him; terrifies most, elicits respect and caution from others. “Mad Rogan made his name in those conflicts. He was off the charts even for the Primes. Nobody knew exactly what he was capable of, but everyone knew the name, Mad Rogan. The Butcher of Merida. Huracan.”

My first Andrews book, her storytelling ability impressive; in particular, she introduces this dangerous “madman” gives him a drool factor of 10. More impressive, she does not include a sex scene. WTH? This IS PNR/UF? But she pulls it off! The sexual tension, the allure. Rogan  flirts, teases, seduces with his magnetic attraction. He draws us, piques our interest, as with Nevada. Very creative as Ione presents Nevada’s POV who’s totally mesmerized…Too late! She’s a goner! Whispers of innuendos, promises of sensual euphoria and sexual bliss…that only he can (and will) deliver; and yet, he does not sleep with her. Confident to the point of narcissistic arrogance, Rogan is vehement in his pursuit…he will have Nevada. “No” is not part of his vocabulary, he even chuckles at his insight.

“You won’t just sleep with me. You’ll be obsessed with me…(Rogan)”

“He [Rogan] let me go, turned on his toes, and went out, laughing.”

Ensnared, captivated, I can’t resist…

Overall, an entertaining action-packed sexy read. Connor “Mad” Rogan is definitely worth reading. White Hot is next!
