Seize the Night

Valerius and Tabitha! What a compelling couple…
I love this book! It is another one of my favorite DH
stories (thus far), along with Dance with the Devil. I have a special fondness for characters that
transform, which grow and overcome their emotional barriers. I relish tortured heroes, their
angst-driven, brooding, mysterious, and wounded personality. Tormented heroes are intensely
reticent, closed, secretive, and isolated; consequently, they develop
protective barriers that distance themselves from other people. In most cases,
the hero’s love interest adeptly destroys these defenses, strips away the
complex layers, and eventually, the hero is able to see his true self through
the eyes of their love.
Valerius and Zarek are 2 examples of the tormented hero…
each brother, featured in their own book, experiences horrendous, harrowing
lives of abuse and unspeakable cruelty. Dance with the Devil tells Zarek’s story, his struggles, and
transformation; and, in Seize the Night, we reconnect with Valerius.
This is Valerius’s story…
Everyone hates Valerius! Dark-Hunters and Squires, alike; ridicule, insult, and avoid
him at all costs. As a descendant
of a most hated Roman noble family, Valerius continues to withstand the worst
of his family’s reputation, a history of brutal, atrocious military campaigns.
There is “no love lost” between the Greek and Roman Dark-Hunters. Each group
remembers the past wars, the barbarous, ruthless actions of ancient warriors.
Kyrian, a former Greek general, remembers! Captured, tortured, degraded, and
crucified by Valerius’s grandfather, Kyrian, as Dark-Hunter, extends his
pugnacious hatred toward Valerius, the grandson of his mortal enemy, and Kyrian
vows to kill Valerius on sight. Valerius
accepts the situation. He expects everyone’s hatred and contempt. Guilt-ridden
and ashamed, he is solitary and reclusive. And he fights Daimons without a
partner, alone. Fortunately, he meets Tabitha…
Tabitha, a self-made vampire slayer is completely
captivating and complex.
Independent and impetuous, Tabitha thinks for herself; forms her own
opinion about people and life. Valerius does not repulse or disgust her;
actually, he piques her curiosity. She finds this aloof, formal, well-mannered,
distant man attractive and challenging! By embracing his inner turmoil,
anguish, and self-disdain, she discerns his need for acceptance and
understanding. Tabitha penetrates Valerius’s cold façade, his formidable
defenses, and discovers a deep-hidden tenderness and vulnerability. She
provides hope and optimism, important ingredients of a loving passionate
relationship.
“It
was that fire in her that warmed him”.
In addition, Valerius is “perfect” for Tabitha. He brings
calmness, peacefulness to her frenetic life. They are awesome, an amazing
eccentric couple!
A great
heartfelt romance with plenty of action!
